I would like to hear your opinions on playing “Pocket Kings”. I recently got tanked on this hand. Thanks.
Geeky Benny: Without a doubt, this is an adrenaline boost. So, I have got to stay composed and play the hand just as I have throughout the game. This is no sure thing. If another player is holding Pocket Aces, I become a 97% underdog! I would come out strong before the flop and push out as many as I could. If, on the flop, an Ace is turned, I would have to have to start using the odds. This is a hand that can kill my stack. But, if I play possum and give cheap looks to other players by not staying strong, I only increase the chance of being the 97% loser.
Sexy Jenny: Actually, I agree with some of Benny’s strategy on this hand. There is absolutely no way that I would let anyone get even close to a free or low priced flop with my Pocket Kings. This is a hand they will all have to “pay to play”. Come out strong, reduce the player count as much as possible and hope for a mixed flop of cards with only long shot chances of straight draws, flush draws, and of coarse the ACES. If an Ace is flopped, I would come out even stronger. Keep an eye on players in front of you, especially 2 or three positions away. Are they looking at their cards more often…are they going for their beverage more frequently… I would play these guys harder than the player in my immediate betting position. Remember, if I lay down “Pocket Kings” to ACES, I am revered a goddess! If I lose with Pocket Kings, I don’t go on “TILT”. If I can’t get an intuition about my opponent’s hand, then it is time to PLAY THE PLAYER! Kings are great, but, don’t be fooled. There are many ways to lose with those big, bad men.
